10 Verses for those Stressful Days

No matter what you are going through. You might have a list of things to do and due dates that seems to multiply with each passing day. You are on your fourth cup of coffee and wondering if it’ll ever get any easier. It does and it will. Here is a list of verses to remind us that God is not only watching over us, but guiding us and encouraging us as we work through this school year.

1. Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

2. Romans 12:2: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

3. John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

4. Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

5. 2 Chronicles 15:7: “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

6. Psalm 37:24: “though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.”

7. Isaiah 12:2: “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.”

8. Romans 8:31: “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

9. Deuteronomy 31:6: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

10. Colossians 1:11: “Being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might o that you may have great endurance and patience.”

Meet the Whos??

So you made it to an info session and now you have these events called “Meet the Mus” that you can go to and you still have so many questions… Like What is it? What do I wear?? Who is going to be there? Am I going to be by myself?? What if no one likes me? What if I don’t like anyone? What should I tell people about myself? And so many more questions.

What are Meet the Mu events? So in Mu Epsilon Theta we have three pillars. Spirituality. Service. and Sisterhood. So each of the Meet the Mus events are focused around one of the pillars. There is the sisterhood Meet the Mus event at Mozart’s Coffee this year, the Service event which was writing positive post it notes to distribute, and the spirituality event which was a praise and worship and prayer together. Then we also have Mass together on Sundays. These events often change locations and what we do at the events every year but always focused on the pillars.

What do you wear? Well it depends on the event. The sisterhood event girls often wear cute clothes; dresses, cute tops and jeans. For the service event, definitely wear something comfortable because we could be doing anything from working at a soup kitchen to walking around to distribute sandwiches. All in all you should really just wear whatever makes you comfortable and confident. When you are both of those things your outfit is not what people focus on because they are distracted by your awesomeness.

Who is going to be there? Am I going to be by myself? A lot of current member will be there and so will a lot of potential new members. (These are the women that you would be pledging with so in addition to talking to new members, take a moment to introduce yourself to the women that will be pledging Mus with you. Who knows they could become a really great friend!) Current members will be there to get to know you and answer any questions you have. This is a great time to informally get the down low on being in Mus and really understand what we are about and the young women we are made up of. And no you will not be alone.

What if no one likes me? What if I don’t like anyone? You have just made the decision to go to one of these meet the Mu events, which requires some courage of heart and the current members know this because not long ago we were in your shoes, nervous about meeting new people and worried about the impression we would leave. But please know, our current members are just excited to see you there because it means there are women who want to have a Catholic faith community in college just like we did when we were looking for that community. We are just excited that you have the same interests as us and that is more than enough for us to not like you but love you!! And if you feel like your just not clicking with any of us that is okay. We have a wide variety of young women in our sorority but sometimes being in a sorority just isn’t for everyone. That doesn’t mean we aren’t going to love you! We are more than happy to find you the community that does click. And there are so many Catholic student organizations that operate at the University Catholic Center, if you feel like Mu Epsilon Theta isn’t your cup of tea then we can help you find the group that is just right.

What should I tell people about myself? Be yourself, be strong, and have courage. You are perfect the way you are and we want to know all about you! Tell us about the fun trip you took over the summer, the fun stuff you want to do in Austin (like seeing the Bats, going to pumpkin patches, and to farmers markets!), the TV shows that you are obsessed with, your favourite saint…. the list could go on and on.

Meet the Mus is a series of events that are made for you. They are so you can see what the sorority is like, what our typical week would look like, meet some of the young women currently involved in the sorority and run through a sort of trial period to see if this is the Catholic community that fits with you. Take advantage of the events and try to go to as many events as possible so you can really test the waters and meet all of us.
